- Recruiters search Naukri's candidate database by keywords, experience, location, notice period and salary. Every field you leave empty or vague can hide you.
- Write your resume headline like a search query: role + core skills + experience + city.
- Fill Key Skills with exact tool and skill names from job posts; remove skills you no longer use.
- Keep salary, notice period and preferred locations accurate, because they are used as filters.
- Update your profile with genuine changes regularly while job hunting, and reply to recruiters quickly.
- Never share your Naukri password. Make changes yourself.
Naukri profile optimization means filling in and wording your profile so that recruiters who search Naukri’s database by role, skill, location, experience and notice period actually find you. Many job seekers upload a resume and stop there. The profile fields around that resume are what recruiter searches and filters use, so that is where the easiest wins are.
This guide explains how recruiters use Naukri, then walks through nine fixes, with examples for freshers and experienced candidates, and a weekly routine that keeps you visible.
How recruiters actually use Naukri
Applying to jobs is one-way: you send an application and wait. Recruiters also search Naukri’s candidate database every day, much like you search Google. A typical search combines:
- Keywords (skills, tools, job titles)
- Experience range (for example, 2-5 years)
- Current and preferred location
- Notice period
- Salary range
- Education, industry and other filters
They then scan the list of matching profiles: your name, headline, current role, experience, location and key skills. A well-filled profile gets you into those searches and makes you stand out in the list, so calls start coming even for jobs you never applied to.
1. Write a resume headline recruiters would type
Your resume headline is the line under your name. Treat it like a search query, not a slogan.
- Weak: “Hardworking and passionate professional seeking growth”
- Strong: “Java Backend Developer | Spring Boot, Microservices, AWS | 3 Years | Pune”
| Profile | Example headline |
|---|---|
| Fresher, engineering | B.Tech CSE 2026 | Java, SQL, DSA | Seeking Software Developer Roles |
| Fresher, commerce | B.Com 2026 | Tally Prime, GST, Advanced Excel | Accounts Executive |
| Sales | Inside Sales Executive | B2B SaaS | Lead Qualification, CRM | 2 Years | Bangalore |
| Finance | Chartered Accountant | Statutory Audit, IND AS | 4 Years Big-4 Experience |
| HR | HR Recruiter | IT Hiring, Naukri & LinkedIn Sourcing | 3 Years | Noida |
| Healthcare | Staff Nurse | ICU & Critical Care | 5 Years | BLS Certified |
| Marketing | Digital Marketing Executive | Google Ads, Meta Ads, SEO | 2 Years |
Include your target role, two to four core skills, years of experience and your city.
2. Fill the Key Skills section completely
Key Skills is one of the most important fields for search. Add:
- the exact tool and skill names used in job descriptions you are targeting (“React.js”, “Power BI”, “Tally Prime”, “SAP FICO”),
- both the full form and common abbreviation where relevant (“Search Engine Optimization (SEO)”),
- domain skills (“credit risk”, “inventory management”, “talent acquisition”).
Remove skills you no longer use or do not want to work with. They attract irrelevant calls. Avoid soft-skill filler such as “hardworking” or “team player”; recruiters do not search for those.
3. Match your job titles to the market
If your company calls you “Associate (Technology)” or “Executive Operations II”, recruiters will not search for that. Use the title the market uses (“Software Engineer”, “Operations Executive”) and mention the internal title in the description if needed.
4. Write a profile summary that answers “why you”
Three or four sentences are enough:
- What you do and in which domain
- One or two measurable results
- Your key tools
- The role you want next
Example (experienced):
Accounts professional with 4 years in manufacturing, handling GST returns, TDS, vendor reconciliation and month-end closing in SAP and Tally. Reduced vendor reconciliation time by streamlining the monthly process. Looking for senior accountant roles in Pune.
Example (fresher):
2026 BBA graduate with a 3-month digital marketing internship managing Instagram and Google Ads for a local coaching institute. Google Ads and HubSpot certified. Seeking digital marketing executive roles in Delhi NCR.
5. Keep salary, notice period and location accurate
Recruiters filter on these fields, so a missing or outdated value can hide you from searches you would be perfect for.
- Notice period: keep it current. If you are serving notice or can join immediately, say so clearly; it is a real advantage.
- Current and expected salary: be honest and realistic for your role and city.
- Preferred locations: add every city you would genuinely move to, plus “Remote” if relevant.
6. Add projects with outcomes
For freshers especially, the Projects section shows what you can actually do. For each project, give:
- a clear title,
- your role and team size,
- tools and technologies,
- what it achieved or demonstrated.
Experienced candidates can use projects to highlight major implementations, migrations or launches.
7. Upload a clean, ATS-friendly resume
Naukri parses your attached resume, and recruiters download it. Use a single-column, text-based PDF or Word file with standard headings, and name it Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf. See our guide on how to pass ATS resume screening and, for freshers, the resume format guide.
8. Complete every section
Recruiters trust complete profiles more, and complete profiles give the search more to match. Make sure you have:
- a professional photo,
- education with years and scores where helpful,
- employment history with clear dates,
- certifications and languages,
- desired job titles, industry and employment type,
- verified email and phone number.
9. Stay active and reply quickly
- Update genuinely and regularly while job hunting: a new skill, a refined headline, a new project or a fresh resume. Recently active profiles tend to be more visible.
- Respond to recruiter messages and calls quickly. Shortlists fill fast.
- Turn on notifications and check the “Recruiter actions” section to see who viewed or downloaded your profile.
- Apply selectively to well-matched jobs rather than mass-applying to everything.
Common Naukri mistakes
- Generic headline with no skills or role
- Key Skills left half-empty or full of outdated tools
- Old notice period or salary that no longer applies
- Profile summary copied from a resume objective
- Resume file that is scanned, multi-column or named “resume final (2).pdf”
- Different job titles and dates on Naukri, LinkedIn and your resume
- Ignoring recruiter messages for days
A 20-minute weekly Naukri routine
- 5 minutes: check recruiter actions and reply to any messages.
- 5 minutes: tweak your headline or add one relevant skill.
- 5 minutes: apply to three to five well-matched jobs.
- 5 minutes: update your resume file if you changed anything.
Naukri, LinkedIn and your resume should match
Recruiters often check all three. Use the same job titles, dates and core achievements across them. If you have not updated LinkedIn in a while, read our LinkedIn headline examples.
